Motto:

The longer you experience WingTsun – the clearer it becomes to you what you have not yet realized.

Why did you start with WingTsun?

With WingTsun, after many years of trial and error, I have found the system that has a uniquely meaningful and, above all, didactic teaching system.

Why are you still doing WingTsun?

From the perspective of the instructor, it is always fantastic to see how WingTsun improves people structurally in ways they would not have thought possible themselves. Especially when they realize that there is more to WingTsun than the increase in rational physical abilities limited by advancing age such as physical strength, speed combined with mental counseling resistance.
From the student’s point of view, I am particularly fascinated by the fact that – the longer and more intensively I move in
and with WingTsun – there is always an improvement in what one is doing.

What was your standout WT experience?

The “WT experience” does not exist for me. I would rather call it a “WingTsun event”: the effect that occurs after weeks, months, years of training seemingly unsuccessful for oneself. When you realize after any period of time that “suddenly and inexplicably” something has changed after all: perhaps an increase in perception, a change in mindfulness or timing – whatever.

What changed for you when you received the 1st HG or 5th MG?

Of course, the 1st HG was on the one hand a conclusion, at that time also the final goal of my “student career”, on the other hand the first step into the realm of the higher degrees and thus an important event. Also the moment when I received the certificate for the 5th MG from my SiFu towards the end of the Tenerife course 2015 was relieving, traumatic and gratifying at the same time.
Nevertheless, and this is only explained through years of practice, it is the changes through constant practice, failure, practice again and research that bring improvement that is hardly noticeable to oneself. Add to that the instruction and guidance from my teachers and mentors, and it’s what ultimately matters. Just as belts hold pants in place, our WingTsun uniform
is quite dressy and makes us appear photogenic, but in the end it is about expressing oneself honestly.
Here is a quote from Bruce Lee: “To me, ultimately, martial art means honestly expressing yourself. To express oneself honestly, not lying to oneself and to express myself honestly, that, my friend is very hard to do.”
