Motto:

WingTsun for me means a life in motion.
Movement: Because WT is constantly changing and evolving. As a result, I also have to keep moving mentally as well as physically.
Life: Because my family’s life and my own are shaped by WT. We are a WingTsun family. Both children have grown up with WT in our family life. I met my husband, GM Schembri, through WT. GM Schembri lives for WT and for me it is and will continue to be an important part in my life, always accompanying me and continuing to shape me.

Why did you start with WingTsun?

I started through my two big brothers. They practiced LatSao in the parlor and then I knew I wanted that too. I wanted to learn to hit in a controlled way, to move so skillfully as well and just have fun.

Why are you still doing WingTsun?

Because, as already mentioned, WT is part of my life. Through the birth of my children I withdrew from teaching. But after an eight year break I got back into it through Sifu Denise Rössler. Training with her is tremendous fun and I love to fiddle and figure out how a certain movement should be implemented and how I need to move to make it work, what I need to target to feel where the force is coming from and how to move it to another point. With Denise I can work and train very well in this way. The fighting itself has moved far into the background. For me, it’s about the quality of movement and always working on the individual movements. I only do WT for myself because it is a good balance to my everyday life. I am a full-time kindergarten teacher and I like it that way. Having my own field and my own area of expertise is very important for me as the wife of a Grandmaster of WT.

What was your standout WT experience?

I don’t have an outstanding experience per se. But there are always small partial successes in training, when individual reactions simply come without effort and show me that I’m on the right track. When something suddenly works. It was also extremely impressive for me to realize that even after an eight-year break, rehearsed reflexes are still very much in place. When I had no idea what I was actually doing, but nevertheless a suitable “answer” to an attack came. I had no idea of the exact programs anymore, but the reactions were still there after eight years. That fascinated and confirmed me to get back into it.

What changed for you when you received the 1st HG or 5th MG?

The 5th MG was a goal of Denise and me for a long time. We wanted to be the first WT champions in Switzerland. That was a special feeling when the two of us really achieved that.
