Motto:

WingTsun is a way of life for me. It offers both physically and mentally a lifelong challenge at the highest level.

Why did you start with WingTsun?

After I had already trained as a child for many years the classic Budo sports Judo, Karate, JuJutsu, Aikido and also Kickboxing, something was “missing” for me in all of them. With WingTsun, I had the feeling from the first lesson that I had finally “arrived”, like with something that you have been searching for a long time and finally found. I don’t know from any other martial art the wide spectrum of hard self-defense, family atmosphere and healthy art of movement up to philosophical points of view. It was immediately clear to me that I had found something “lifelong” here.

Why are you still doing WingTsun?

… because it inspires me every day anew and I can constantly learn something. I “live” WingTsun. If one thinks after 28 years WingTsun to know most of it, our Grandmaster Kernspecht comes along with iWT and again for decades, new possibilities and abilities are to be acquired. WingTsun fascinates me every day anew. In recent years, I supplemented it increasingly with Newman-Escrima, which gives excellent synergy effects.

What was your standout WT experience?

Looking back, certainly that I met my wife there as a trainer and now we can teach together as a family – my wife Doris with 3rd teacher degree and our daughter Myriam (17) with 2nd teacher degree – in our academy. We are, so to speak, a small happy family within the big WingTsun family, where we just feel comfortable.

What changed for you when you received the 1st HG or 5th MG?

For me, each of the three “big goals” was something special: the 1st teacher degree in 1993, the Sifu title award in 2001 and the 5th MG in 2008. At the same time, however, I consider everything only as a respective intermediate step in the lifelong learning and practice of WingTsun. But I see the achievement of the “championship” already as the “highlight” of my (so far) WingTsun life. But I also hope to be able to say someday that the Grandmaster title is the highlight of my WingTsun life …
