WingTsun is for me not only self-defense and martial arts, but an attitude towards life.
Why did you start with WingTsun?
I started with WingTsun, because the topic of practical self-protection has a significant value in my line of work (security industry). I became aware of EWTO-WingTsun through a colleague at work. At that time I had worked with many colleagues who had a strong physical presence. This one work colleague, however, was rather small and slender. Nevertheless, he was able to solve borderline situations quickly and calmly. That impressed me. After WingTsun was offered in my immediate vicinity, I began to take lessons in Düsseldorf.
Why are you still doing WingTsun?
From an in-service training became a passion that lasts until today and that I do not want to miss. To improve myself every day with and also thanks to my students according to the motto: “Who stops getting better, has stopped being good.” Thanks to Grandmaster Kernspecht, everything is always put to the test and adapted to new circumstances, according to the WingTsun principles.
What was your standout WT experience?
My outstanding WT experience is the passed exam of the last practical part to the 5th MG at my SiFu in Tenerife at the beginning of 2014. The practical exam went on for several days. The uncertainty until the end, whether it was enough and the relief after the praising words of my SiFu on the last day of class were and are to this day an incisive event.
What changed for you when you received the 1st HG or 5th MG?
I was much more aware of the preparation for the 5th MG. The preparation was more intensive; there were several exams with my SiFu in Kiel in private lessons and finally the small group in Tenerife. I had not prepared so well for the 1st HG and therefore I was not really satisfied with my performance. It was a lesson for me for the following exams.
