Why did you start with WingTsun?

After training kickboxing for two years, I was missing something. But I didn’t know what it was that I was missing. Then I tried TaeKwonDo, which brought the same result after about two years!
Then an acquaintance told me about WingTsun and I should come to the training. I went along and started with WingTsun. That was in 1993, so now I have been doing WingTsun “a little longer” than two years. And I hope that I can still train WT for a very long time.

Why are you still doing WingTsun?

What excites me about WingTsun is that it is constantly improving and adapting! It never gets boring. I have also never been of the opinion that I can do most of it and could rest a bit! No, there is still so much new to learn or to improve what I have learned.

What was your standout WT experience?

There were many moments in WT that made me very happy and proud: e.g. the 1st HG, the Sifu title, the 5th MG, enthusiastic students … But one thing impressed me especially. Those were the first private lessons with Sifu Kernspecht. I had the 2nd HG and did the first lesson with Sifu in Kiel. I was totally impressed. Since then I go regularly to Kiel. And I am still totally impressed after every training! I learn something new at every training and then it always takes me a while to understand these things and to be able to implement them to some extent.

What changed for you when you received the 1st HG or 5th MG?

As a student it was no difference for me, because there is still so much to learn! As a teacher, the 5th MG already made me very proud, because as a master you should be even more of a role model.
