Motto:
Out of the thought that one does not necessarily “need to ask for the meaning of life, but simply gives life meaning”, I have found in WingTsun everything I need to be happy. Approximately after J. Ringelnatz: “Live, laugh, have courage, and do your thing well!”
Why did you start with WingTsun?
I was mugged at the age of 16. In Italy. On the beach. After dinner, I was walking with my parents when I spotted some teenagers a little further away. I said goodbye to my parents and slowly walked in their direction. Three boys came towards me. Using words I didn’t understand, two tried to hold me down while one waved a knife around. The JiuJitsu I had learned up to that point failed. My handball sport worked – I could break away and run faster than the others.
When I was 19, I got into a sneaky robbery. I didn’t have a chance to do anything. But I swore to myself that this would not happen to me again. After two years of searching through karate, boxing and kickboxing I came to WingTsun “by chance”. My mother wrote out a company sports community group “Self-defense with WingTsun!” in her company. Yes, and that was it! Already after three quarters of a year I started with the trainer training, because I saw how good it did me. In addition, my desire to help as many people as possible was born.
Why are you still doing WingTsun?
… because it gives me meaning and is fun.
… because you get together with a lot of people who appreciate helping each other, among other things.
… because I can create new things and preserve old ones in equal measure.
… because it offers me – in the meantime – the possibility to create incomparable things in a small team (on site) and a big team (EWTO). …
because I have a mentor to whom I owe directly and indirectly EVERYTHING that I was allowed to set up with WingTsun and who also knew how to develop me as a person.
What was your standout WT experience?
As a WT student: the event on the occasion of GM Leung Ting’s 50th birthday, the Budo Gala in China with the completion of my SiFus.
As a WT teacher: teaching a wheelchair sports group.
As a WT student: passing the Bachelor of Martial Arts at the University of Derby/Buxton.
As an “EWTO employee”: helping with security for the 25th anniversary celebration.
As a person: the awareness of what GM Kernspecht and his team have created.
What changed for you when you received the 1st HG or 5th MG?
Except for the graduation nothing! At least in the self-perception.
More serious for me was the appointment to Sifu, because my SiFu had previously explained to me the responsibility of this title in great detail.
