Why did you start with WingTsun?
I started with judo, karate and kickboxing. When I came to Muai Thai in the late seventies, I learned from my then teacher, Sunthus Supastorpong, also Ling Lom, the air monkey style. At that time I did not know that I was already very close to WingTsun. With Ling Lom I realized immediately, it is something completely different. A pure self-defense and I realized at that time, pure self-defense is what I was looking for, especially since I had never really been interested in competitive sports. Then one day, when Grandmaster Kernspecht and Grandmaster Leung Ting showed up at the Ling Lom, I got to know WingTsun for the first time and I liked it immediately.
When I learned that Bruce Lee was also learning WingTsun, my decision was made. I wanted and had to learn WingTsun.
Why are you still doing WingTsun?
I love WingTsun and I enjoy teaching it.
What was your standout WT experience?
There were many. My first course with Grandmaster Kernspecht, for example, where I passed the 1st and 2nd student degrees, or the examination for the 12th student degree. Outstanding was also the appointment to Sifu and of course the appointment to the 5th MG, as well as the five previous exams were highlights.
What changed for you when you received the 1st HG or 5th MG?
It made a big difference! The 1st MG is already something special, because one leaves the level of the student degrees and enters the level of the higher degrees. The 5th MG is the master honor, a special recognition, especially since very many years lie between 1st HG and 5th HG. That is why I was especially happy about it.
