School(s) in: Eckernförde (Schleswig-Holstein)

School Owner since: 1988

Motto:

For me, WingTsun means having the opportunity to live more freely, safely and healthily.

Why did you start with WingTsun?

I started WingTsun training in 1981. For me, as a 16-year-old teenager at the time, it was time to be able to defend myself against my three-year older brother, among others. With WingTsun I had quickly learned to catapult myself out of the victim role at that time.

Why are you still doing WingTsun?

For me, the teaching activity is in the foreground today! Giving other people, especially children and young people, a helping hand to help themselves is particularly satisfying for me! Often the Weisse Ring e.V., which also turned forty in 2016, asks me to look after victims. Being able to give something back to society, as we do, is wonderful for me.

For me, teaching with my SiFu Grandmaster Kernspecht is always a great experience. The things he discovers and shares with us always serve as homework for me and broaden my horizons immensely. Thank you for over 35 years of learning and teaching!

What was your standout WT experience?

There are so many outstanding experiences with WingTsun. To find one here that is or was special is very difficult.
But here is one for you: Many years ago, when I gave
my then severely injured student, now WingTsun Master Sifu Stefan Schmaltz, over quite a few hours of balance training on the beam, he managed the unbelievable! He could cycle again. Who knows his story, knows what an achievement that was! The feeling I had when he rode alone on my bike for the first time in front of our house was wonderful and unforgettable for me.

What changed for you when you received the 1st HG or 5th MG?

As a 1st teacher degree I became more aware of the term “teacher” for the first time! I should be even more a role model for others.
When I reached the 5th MG, I thought I had made it! Today I know that I was only a junior master at that time and that mastery means constant learning and development.
