Why did you start with WingTsun?

By chance. I passed a martial arts school in Hamburg on the Alster in 1976 and saw pictures of WingTsun in the shop window. It looked interesting and somewhat exotic. I was very interested in sports at that time and wanted to try something new.

Why are you still doing WingTsun?

I believe after meanwhile 40 years that there is no more meaningful kind of the movement teaching and the self-defense under the desires and yardsticks represented by me. I had enough time to compare, try and think. Other preferences and objectives – such as competitive sports or exhibition fighting – may well have led to a different choice.

What was your standout WT experience?

To have started with WingTsun!

What changed for you when you received the 1st HG or 5th MG?

Graduations mean nothing if they are not filled with increases in experience and knowledge. Seen in this way, the expansion of my knowledge and my abilities on the path I have taken pleases me. One recognizes by it, however, also that as with scientists or artists (musicians, painters, sculptors) a limitation or an end of the learning, also by own doing, is not recognizable despite the already existing large experience framework.
