Motto:
WingTsun training means for me to get my head free from all thoughts of everyday life and to concentrate only on my body. I feel it even better when only the energy decides about the momentary being and about my movement. Yin and Yang send their regards.
Why did you start with WingTsun?
I started with WingTsun, because at the time of my move to my new place of residence there was no good TaeKwonDo club anymore. Because of that I had to decide at that time to learn something new “right from the beginning”. With the 2nd Dan in TaeKwonDo I found this very difficult at times, because everything in WingTsun was different.
Why are you still doing WingTsun?
I stayed with WingTsun and the older I get, the more I learn to appreciate WingTsun. Because the longer I practice WingTsun, the smaller my movements become and therefore my condition is not needed as much as it used to be in TaeKwonDo. It is very positive that even with physical limitations WingTsun can be practiced successfully until old age.
What changed for you when you received the 1st HG or 5th MG?
When I got the 1st HG, it was for me only the beginning of the necessary techniques and I was very fixated on our WingTsun (EWTO). The interpretation of the “right” movement was very important for me to understand WingTsun.
With the receipt of the 5th MG, I am no longer fixated on the movement, but work on my energy flow in the body to control it optimally and align it with the opponent/partner. I also think it is very important for me to look beyond my own nose and observe other WingTsun styles, to interpret them or even to analyze the differences once in ChiSao. Only through this I can develop my own personal WingTsun, which in my eyes should be the goal of a master.
