Motto:
WingTsun means for me self-realization, personal development!
Why did you start with WingTsun?
At the age of 21 I started with WingTsun. However, I gained my first martial arts experience in karate. At that time I was very interested in self-defense and hoped to learn it through karate. After three years of karate training I became aware of WingTsun through my brother. The training took place in the boiler room of a family house. Already in the first hour I reached my limits and had to realize that my karate was of no use to me here. I was fascinated above all by the simultaneity of the movements in WingTsun, which did not exist in this way in karate. The training had me so enthusiastic that I immediately signed up.
Why are you still doing WingTsun?
Now I run my own WingTsun school in Wuppertal since 1994. Meanwhile, it is no longer the self-defense in WingTsun that interests me, but rather the inner concepts and strategies that exist in WingTsun. My ambition is to constantly learn new things, to deal with complex movement sequences and thus to develop myself physically and mentally. I particularly enjoy passing on my enthusiasm for WingTsun to my students. What began as a hobby has become my profession and now my vocation.
What was your standout WT experience?
I have a very special memory of a course with Leung Ting in Mannheim. He taught in front of hundreds of WingTsun enthusiasts and also gave a public demonstration there. Furthermore, the first private lesson with my SiFu GM Kernspecht was especially important to me. Now I know how important a personal first hand support is.
What changed for you when you received the 1st HG or 5th MG?
After the 12th student degree, I was looking forward to the 1st higher degree. This was for me like entering a new world. This also marked the different clothing in the training. At the 5th MG this feeling of entering a new world was similar. While the 1st HG mainly required fighting spirit, the 5th MG placed more emphasis on diligence and skill.
My big dream is to graduate from WT as a grandmaster.
